RF over Fiber Optics

Fiber Optic Solutions

RF to Fiber Optic conversion systems in standalone or modular indoor and outdoor solutions increase the efficiency of the link between the baseband and the RF antenna equipment at any frequency while minimizing signal losses.

With the increase of the distance between the baseband and the antennas in the communication stations, it is required to carry out a more efficient signal transmission minimizing the signal losses between both ends to avoid the use of extremely thick coaxial cables that make installation and interconnection difficult and increase the cost of the same.

The use of RFoFO converters makes it possible to eliminate interconnection losses between two points and reduce interconnection cabling installation costs with the use of very economical and easy-to-install multi-core fiber optic conduits.

In addition, another characteristic of fiber optics is Immunity to Electromagnetic Interference, which unlike copper cables, fiber optics is not susceptible to electromagnetic interference. This is especially beneficial in environments where there are many sources of electrical noise, as it ensures clearer and more reliable signal transmission. It also insulates both ends against lightning propagation without the use of lightning arresters.

Increased security is another important factor, since using RF transmission over fiber optics makes it more difficult to intercept signals traveling through the fiber and easier to keep sensitive equipment under control. This is crucial in applications where data security is a priority such as in military communications where the use of Crypto equipment can be kept in a secure area while the amplifiers can be hundreds of meters or even kilometers away in an unsecured area.

Within the solutions, simple or redundant links can be configured, with the splitters and switches integrated into the chassis itself as an additional module. All modules are hot-swappable and auto-detected once installed in the chassis.

The chassis, whether indoor or outdoor, have redundant power supplies, as well as CPU and Ethernet to FO converters for remote monitoring of the chassis.

NTi has recognized and operational solutions in many Commercial and Military customers for the integration of RFoF systems from frequencies below 50 MHz up to 50 GHz. Consult with us for your needs
